Arizona Grand Canyon Hiking & Camping

Camping in the Grand Canyon

You must get a permit to camp anywhere within Grand Canyon National Park other than the developed campgrounds.

There are only a limited number of back country permits available, so you must apply early to get the dates you prefer.

The weather in and around the Grand Canyon can be severe. Be sure to bring plenty of water and layer your clothing.

Guided backcountry hiking and camping trips are offered by local outfitters (See tour company links at right).

Hiking in the Grand Canyon

If you want to see the back country and you cannot get an overnight permit, consider day hikes out of one of the developed campgrounds or from local area lodging. See the Grand Canyon Hiking Guide for detailed information on hiking trips in the Grand Canyon.
